Get your Techron from Costco in 4 packs - it's dirt cheap that way.
My "fuel gauge crashing to zero" went away after a computer reflash to fix the column lock problem (98 MN6). Seems reasonable, as the fuel gauge active components are not in any way exposed to gasoline, so Techron and the like will liely do nothing for that problem. Fixing the C5's flaky electronic systems seems like it should be the right solution.

So if the gas not touch the sender, how does it measure the fuel??

One problem is with the "overlap" between the two tank sensors. If the computer gets confused, then it defaults to empty, instantly and without warning. My car doesn't have this problem, but I would imagine that it happens at the exact same spot on the fuel level gauge every time (about 1/2 full). This problem is fixed with a computer reflash.
The other problem is when sulphur builds up on the level sensor inside the tanks. It shields the actual level from the sensor, causing irratic and inaccurate readings, eventually leading to the empty tank indication. This happens at any and all levels in the tank. In my car I notice the level fluctuating, then it will drop to empty, usually around 1/4 tank, but it has happened at all levels. If you take your car to a dealer for this problem they'll probably change out your sensors and sending unit, be prepared for the rather large bill. OR, you can add a few bottles of Techron and "fix" it yourself for under $20. The Techron cleans off the sensors and all is well again. From what I've been reading over the years, this problem seems to be worse in cars that sit in a garage for long periods of time. I add a few bottles about twice a year, or more often if the level starts acting up sooner.

the fuel gage problem is common among the C5's. There is a GM tech bullitin out. The dealer replaced several different items besides the sending module per GM spec (under warranty) and that corrected the problem. It still dose'nt hurt to keep them kleen-injectors can be pricey also.

I personally do not know but I do not think all stations have top tier fuels for sale. However the Techron does clean parts of the engine such as valves.

In eastern PA iv'e used all premium gasolines out of all vendors: Exxon, Sunoco, Texaco, WAWA, and Sheetz'. The only time I had aproblem was in the summertime 3 yrs. ago w/Exxon. My brother in NJ uses Exxon exclusively and had the same problem several times. All I did was to use adifferent gas.

I do not believe it is brand or tier dependant. I use 93 octane sunoco and it happens frequently. Techtron fixes it for awhile. I do not go to the dealerships for anything if I can help it

I bought a can of the GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS, P/N 88861011 for $17.23 and the gas gauge is working again. Maybe the cans of Techron would have had the same result, but I'm hoping the GM stuff will coat the sensors and slow the build up of the deposits. Now if I can replace my old seat rails with the newer ones, everything will be working!

Okay, I just filled up and am have a slightly different issue: Upon startup, the gauge reads half full and slowly creeps up to the full mark. Probably takes close to 10 minutes to register full. I've only driven 40 miles on this tank, so I have yet to see if it fixes itself.
Anyone experience anything like this?

Do you fill up beyond the auto-shut off? Overfilling seems to weird out the gas gauge on some cars.
