After a long trip, 1100+ miles, then sitting for approx 36 hours, the check engine light appeared. The only current code was 10-PCM P1416 C, which is the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 2.

I cleared the code. Turned the car off. Started immeadiately and the check engine light is now out and the code did not return.

At thoughts as to what may have caused this? [Confused]

P1416 is caused by a stuck AIR system check valve, there are 2. You can leave it be without any worries, or change out the valves. One is almost impossible to get to without removing the manifold. I have all of the parts sitting in my garage waiting on a rainy day, the code comes up regularly in the winter, almost never in the summer.

Do a search here and at corvettemechanic.com for "p1416" and you'll find some good info.

[Cheers]

I changed the one behind the intake. The worse part was to remove the valve from the Pipe going to the passenger exhause manifauld. I had to remove the air pipe and use heat to remove(destroy) the valve. That was due to carbon in the thread between valve and pipe.
If the valve is stuck open, the exhaust (carbon) will go into the air system.

You can see a part of the valve behind the harness and the pipe on this picture. The 1416 is the valve behind the mainfauld. At the right of the oil sensor.

P1415 is this one. Easy to remove. I'm wonderring why the bank 2 (1416) always fail. Might be because it is hard to replace....

My 97 A-4 coupe just had the check engine light come on last weekend and I checked the code and it was the P1416C. I drove it today and after 25 or 30 miles the check engine light went out. This has happened before but goes away pretty quick. It happens about twice a year. The P1415 came on once but went away. Will this hurt anything? I figure if it comes on and want go away I will have to replace the valves. The corvette runs great and only has 23,000 miles. I also have K&N filter,Borla exhaust,X-pipe, and Hyper-tec programed,170 thermostat. Will these mods cause the codes to pop up? Will the codes hurt anything?

I had the same error with my 01'. was when the battery leaked out, and got into the wiring harness. the only damage was to the two vacuum lines that are in the wiring harness bundle. one goes from the intake to the vacuum tank in the passenger door frame area, and the other goes from the tank to the instraument panel. You could have a leak on one of those lines. The one from the manifold is a pain, you might have to remove alot to get to it. See if your AC and Heat flaps are working fine, and the air get directed from the defrost, to vents, to floor properly. if that works ok, then may be the line from manifold to vacuum tank.

It doesn't affect much, but if the check valve stay open, it could damage the hose and air pump because exhaust gas is going backward in the system.

Thanks for the input. I'll check things out. [Cheers]

The Optima looks good. Drove the car last night and still no check engine light.
