I have a '99 six speed. 36k miles. Made some intake and exhaust improvements. Considering a tuner programmer to reset computer to increase performance. Any experiences regarding improvements? Any brand suggestions? Any potential negative issues long-term? Thanks!

Welcome [Save the Wave!]

Hypertech and Predator are the big names. Hypertech is a bit lesss expensive, but you can't "fine tune" their program like you can with the Predator. If you get a Predator from the right vendor (I don't know which ones) they will even load a tune that's optimized for your specific mods (at least they used to).

Link for more info.

[Cheers]

I have used Preditor for many years on my GM trucks, on my Vette's I always had them tuned on the dyno, it gives you the biggest gains. The Preditor gives very good results for a hand held programmer. [Smile]

I just noticed that with the Predator, you are not able to change or remove speed limiters, except on trucks. Doesn't make sense, can someone shed some light?

There is no speed limiter on a C5, so the fact that you can't adjust it doesn't matter [Wink]

I have always been able to remove the speed limiter with the Preditor in my 03' and both 07' Escalade's. [Smile]

I ran hypertech for years not worth the money imho unless you have the A4. There are better ways to get more power should you need it.

I have A4 and hypertech tec programed by C5 and it made a big difference. Changed shift points to 6200 rpm and added firm shift. Very pleased with the resluts.

Be aware that the hypertech increases line pressure to stiffen the shifts. It is great to chrip the tires while slapping the auto into 2nd and even 3rd gear. I have no doubt that this caused the premature need to replace my tranny. Increased line pressure firmer shifts equals premature failure. Just a heads up not a flame. I wouldnt have done otherwise but the forum is for sharing information

I have an A4 04. Mod fever is itching. Is it quicker off the line? I dont't race mine but I got a friend with an LS2 GTO 6 speed with cat back exaught that I would like to show that the LS1 corvette is still the king 2nd ONLY!!! to other vettes.(C6,ZO6, ect...) I still think I could get him of the line but those LS2's are mean. Its' an ego thing. [Devil Wink]

Yes it is faster but not as much as a pro tune. I think you can get him if you launch correctly and manually shift the car

a higher stall speed converter will help you a lot off the line.

fyi... went to the track today, couldn't figure out why my 2000c5 was running slower than my buddies 2000c5 (both m6 cars); took the hypertech programming out and it picked up 2/10ths sec and a mph... I'm not impressed...

If you have the $$ to spend, go see Mike at J&M Motorsports in Manchester (if that isn't too far from you). He uses HP Tuners software...he's been around this game for quite a while. He's made the "Corvette Shops You Can Trust" list put out by Corvette Fever magazine for the last six+ years. If you want more info, PM me. [Cheers]
