I need a spare key and remote for my '00. I know that remotes can be bought cheap on ebay and reprogrammed, but what about keys? They have that Pass-key thingy in them, so do I need to order through a dealer?

You can get the keys from many sources and have it cut by a local locksmith (who may also have them). You just need to know the resistor value to get the right key. There is a list of them in Chewy's post here: http://www.c5forum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/3295.html#000001Posts: 4452 | From: Long Island, NY | Registered: Nov 2000

You can also get a VATS bypass module, that plugs directly into your wiring harness, for about $20.00. Once installed, you won't need the "special" VATS key(s). One new key, cut for your car, will cost about the same as the bypass module.

Who sells these for a C5? And why would you bother to install one in a C5? AFAIK, there have been almost no VATS related issues on the C5.

Just another option. They can be had from Adaptive Performance for $17.95 shipped, which would allow you to use a regular blank at a much reduced price to the VATS keys.
