How difficult is it to change the fluid and filter on the transmission on a 2000 vette? Is the stock chevy fluid and filter adequate or does anybody else recommend something different?

I purchased this car used with a 109,000 and unsure if it was changed at 100,000. Any idea what this typically costs at the dealership?

It's fairly straightforward. Just use the factory Dexron III. I'd suggest reading c4c5specialist post on inspecting the filter before a power flush here:

What Bruce said unless you have an A4 then get the fluid flushed and make sure they use dextron 6. A4 is too much of a pain to DIY and the probability of getting the correct amount of fluid back in is low and getting burned while doing it is a high probability. Insist on DEXTRON 6 in your A4. I recommend you watch them do it... pretty cool and you will know the fluid level is correct which is major. Best of Luck

If you can't do it correctly, you are right.
It generally is an easy job.
I've never burnt myself and I've alway got the correct amout of fluid back in [Wink]

There is nothing easy about getting the fluid into the trans of an A4 especially if you do not have a lift. Dangerous sloppy job it isnt worth the effort to do yourself.

I agree with leadfoot. Trying to save a few dollars by doing this yourself may cost you more in aggravation in the end.
