Good Morning All! I have read many different posts concerning the column lock and GM's response to it, but i am never sure what I have read means. Does anyone know if there is any difiniteve information as to GM's position on fixing this design flaw? I thought I was immune until my 01 Coupe locked the past two days while trying to leave work. Repeated pulling of the key and waiting 10 sec finally produced a turnable wheel. I must admit I feel vunerable in a way I have not experienced since buying the car 14 months ago. I want to have this fixed ASAP, and would like to think that maybe GM has made arangements to step up to the plate and make this right. Any difinitive information is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Go to the dealer and let them perform the recall steering lock fix. They fixed my 97 coupe about four years ago and I have had no problem. But it never locked up on me at any time. After the fix the steering wheel will not lock which is ok with me. I have the club and a locking box that goes over the auto shifter. The dealer should fix it at no charge. Good luck.

The 'recall' expired earlier this year. The dealer may give you a hard time. There is a sticky in the Tech section on the recall.

If the dealer won't disable it for free, you can buy an aftermarket CLB for $50. That's what I did before they had the recall.

[Cheers]
