I have to share the outcome of my non dyno PCM tune Easily there is 20 HP and maybe more.. The car has been seriously woken up as the factory settings were not power oriented or based on what mods I have added that changed the engines reality. This car is much different everything works together it has been TUNED . The addition of different plugs changes in air flow both intaake and exhaust and setting the timing to more aggressive parameters might make this the best mod yet. I have to recommend this based solely on my outcome. I paid $125 for a PCM tune not the o2 sensor up the pipe deal I assume it is a canned program that reads and adjusts the parameters/settings. It is kick ass and I aint impressed easy. Dunno if the mail order tunes are this good. I think you need someone who has done a gizzilion of these for the best results I dunno. I couldnt be happier as that $125 was well spent [Cheers]

No body wants to discuss the PCM tune hmmm I want to add that I have the hypertech programmer and this tune puts the progrmmers to shame. Check it out I am finding several vendors that tune the PCM. My car is alert not drowzie it is at full attention just waiting for the go pedal. Gonna go and burn some fossils see ya

I am curious. Where do you go to get the PCM tune? Would the Hyperteck programmer work best?

The hand held tuners have a canned program and I have learned that might not be right for your cars particular mods/best performance. I have the hypertech and although better than no tune it isn't nearly as capable as a PCM tune. Where to get I dunno. There are many vendors and I would search out one that has done many and specializes in our LS1. Watch out on the price. I have seen some wanting $500 I got mine a special for $125. The tune doesnt go away unless the PCM is reflashed. Pull the battery it will reside in the PCM memory. I am very conservative when it comes to mods but this is a really ought to do. It is so much better in outcome than the hand held predators and hypertechs. My gas mileage is even better by a couple

Sounds good Foot!

You will definately send the 6-speed Vettes running now! [Razz]

The guy that dyned my car said it pretty much is where it should be and in its sweet spot, thus a tune was not needed based on my power numbers and power curves. I dunno, maybe he just did not know much about LS1's?

Don't want to rain on your parade, Leadfoot, but if you changed the plugs and did the tune at the same time, how do you know that most of the gain wasn't the plugs?

I ran my car on a dyno to get a baseline, and with each of 3 pulls with no changes on hardware or sofware, I gained power, so I'm wondering how I'm going to know quantitatively what I'm gaining from a dyno tune. Seat of the pants can be pretty deceptive, especially when you really want it to work.

No rain on this parade [Roll Eyes]
My car is sooo much better more power smoother performance everything in synch [Cool] Kinda like the old days when you got the timing and dwell perfect. Made all of my mods work together and freed up the inhibited power the factory left inside the LS1. The tranny is in synch and shifts better than ever. Plugs and wires were done 6 weeks before the tune. Definitely worth the money [Devil Grin] and ride to Carlisle. The vette doctors really performed too bad I couldnt charge my bluecross. The tail pipe tune doesnt come close as it only addresses the air fuel mixture. The canned programmer tunes do not synch your car to your mods and individualize the parameters. Way better than any mod I have done to date. The car howls with power and idles smooth as can be. Don't miss out on the potential your C5 has hidden in the PCM [Hammer]

A hearty endorsement it is and not just for the vendor mentioned there are many tuners around the country. I didnt care for the dyno aspect. The ones I have observed are hard on the car and focus on peak output. The C5 adjusts to conditions and overtime I suspect they wander from the ideal settings for the complex interaction that is corvette performance. Add mods and the whole formula is changed especially mixture with improved airflow, timing changes from different type/temperature plugs, exhaust changes need to be accounted for. That is what happened to mine all of the changes were accounted for and the receipe is finally right. I suspect it will wander a bit as plugs corrode, injectors wear, air changes etc but it is near where the corvette was meant to be. Try it what can you lose? versus what can be gained?
