Umm... they let me use $1,250 from my GM card on my 07 vert a few months back, also I had the choice of an 08 or 07 for the same amount over invoice ($1,000). I took the 07 so I could have it then instead of now.

Sorry if you don't think thats amazing.
I beleive the convertibles offer more room for dealers to deal.
Even stock c5's are not getting anything more than what I mentioned for 2001's..
I don't think its terrible...its just for the kind of coin being discuessed for the previously owned cars.. Its not worth selling.
JMO Too much car for too little money.
5 grand is a long way from 10 grand.

I believe 10 grand discount was mentioned on the convertible.. .....
In the very last days of the c5 there were 12 grand discounts...........
I'd say the poor economy has GM accelerating the discounts more so with this generation and it has nothing to do with the car not being as well designed as the previous generation..
Just a lot weaker economy.

the people who bought pickups that did not need them are now looking for cars with better MPG so pickup sales are off. sales of big SUVs are still good because buyers with $50K to spend on a car $2.70 a gallon gasoline does not bother them. the gasoline problem was cause by the price not going up over the years with inflation over the last 55 years like everything else. my first new car was a 1953 chevy 210 2 door and it cost $1350 and gas was .27 a gallon. a new cobalt will cost you $13,500 up by a factor of 10 the same as the price of gasoline

looks like GM may have done OK in aug.NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors posted a surprise sales gain in August, bucking an industry trend of weak auto sales in the period, and helping domestic brands to recapture a majority of U.S. sales.
GM said its sales of cars and light trucks, such as SUVs and pickups, rose 6 percent in the month to 385,529 vehicles. Car models saw a nearly 8 percent drop in sales, but that was outweighed by the the 16.5 percent jump in light truck models.

picked up my 2008 today and this is my first stick shift car since 1981 X-11 citation and the clutch has too light a feel for me. i have heard that a C-5 clutch spring will make the feel heavier,is this true?

I had the opposite experience going from C5 to C6. The '01 clutch engaged rather slowly at about 2/3 up from the floor, while the '07 engages rather harshly IMO at about 1/3 up from the floor. It surprised me so much the first time I drove it that I almost stalled it in the NCM lot when I took delivery.
BTW, congrats on the new car
Any "first impressions" other than the clutch?

only put 25 miles on today as we had the grandkids. seems quieter than my 05 and seems to have more snap.the clutch seem like a light switch but maybe it takes some time to get used to it. got to get used to pushing in the clutch when coming to a stop and use the ball of my foot because my big feet get caught on something under the dash if i have my foot too far up on the pedal.

It is true about the discounts. I just got my 2008 C6 for $9000 off of the sticker. It has the 3LT option package. The sticker price was $56000. I got it for $47000. Basically I told them that I could go elsewhere to get it, so they did it. You just need to do some homework and shop around.
