I did a post on the lost Corvettes of Brooklyn Peter Max's Corvette project) pulled from another Corvette Forum and everyone here at C5Forum seems to have just ignored it. The other site has a whole section on them along with a picture of what the entire fleet looked like back in 1990 and then what they look like today. In fact, representatives from the other Corvette site appear to have gained access to the Corvette's and actually are posting pictures of them along with VIN's and mileage. My post was moved to the C1, C2, C3 and C4 section and seems to have just died there. Do the people of C5Forum just not care about them? Are we the same Corvette lovers here that visit the other site? Does anyone here at C5Forum care about almost 40 vintage Vettes that have been allowed to detoriate while stored in a parking garage in Brooklyn. Do you not know that there are some very low mileage Vettes among them?

Just wondering??????????????

As a follow up: Some may say "this is C5 Forum" I agree, but most of us who own C5's used to own C1, C2, C3 and C4 Vettes. The earlly Vettes are the ones that got us to where we are today. My first Vette was a C1, a 1962. I probably would have not bought a C5 but for the experience I had with the C1. I do care about those Vettes rotting in a garage in Brooklyn. Do you?

I wonder, will this thread get any responses or will it die in the C1, C2, C3 and C4 section again.

Sorry folks, passion coming through............

Just want you to know that I checked out your original post about the Vettes of Bklyn. Thought it was a great find on your part!! I've been a fan of these cars for over 35 years, and the story about Peter Max's "lost" collection set me drooling.

My current C5 is my 3rd Corvette...my first one was a '70 350/300 'vert, and #2 was a '73 L-82 coupe - both 4-speeds. But they both pale in comparison to my '01 triple black 'vert.

Long story short - I, for one, was grateful for the article. I'm sure other guys out there were too.

Save the wave!!
Regards
Ted (Playin' Hooky)

While I appreciate the "automotive significance" of the Corvette, who cares?

I have a C5, I love my C5, it's my only car, but it is still just a car. If something happens to my car I'll grieve for a few minutes and then get a new one. So some super rich and even stranger dude let a few cars sit in a garage for a decade or so, who cares, in the overall big picture of life, even though they're Corvettes, they're still just a bunch of cars.

I couldn't give two sh**s about Peter Max or anyone else who has that much money and wastes so much of it "on a whim". The fact is that he bought them, they're his cars, he can do whatever he wants to with them. If that means they sit collecting dust, so be it.

If what I've said here offends anyone, I'm sorry, but it's been a long day and that's my opinion.

The more I were to read about it the worse I would feel. In the end there simply is nothing we can do about it.

Pool all our money together and make him an offer! [Big Grin]

Maybe one day we will see them on Barrett Jackson for auction.

CHEWY,

No offense taken. I just wondered why there seemed to be no interest or opinions here at C5. I don't really care if a person has a positive or negative opinion. I just wondered if folks here at C5 had an opinion at all. At least some of you have seen or heard about them. I have mixed emotions when I see them. They certainly deserve a better fate. And CHEWY, I disagree. They aren't just a car. Some of them are part of Corvette history and even American history. Your C5, and mine, now they are just cars. But someday maybe they too will be part of Corvette history.

Thanks for the comments folks.

From my experience most people come to this forum for help with a problem with their C5 and then to talk about their C5s. Rarely are the other sections visited.

As I said when I moved the thread, it was because it wasn't C5 related. And because of that, it certainly didn't belong in the C5 Tech section, where you posted it, let alone the discussion forum.

It's a sad story, but there are a lot worse ones in the Corvette community. Most of these cars were cosmetically nice when the contest happened, but many were lousy mechanically, NOM, low options, a few with questionable histories, a few salvaged from a junkyard etc. And most people were horrified when Peter Max proposed painting them. I'm not sure if this fate is much different than that one.

I agree that most people (including me) come to this web site to ask and answer questions. I considered that when I posted the original post that you moved. And I also recognize that the other web site is quiet different from this one in that it is more "show" oriented. Maybe that explains all the attention the Vettes are getting over there. But, I just thought that a Vette lover is a Vette lover no matter where they go to communicate with other people. You are also right as to the purpose of this site. If I want to be entertained or find out general info about vettes I would probably go to the other Forum. If I want an opinion from someone that I feel knows what they are talking about I would for sure come here. I appreciate the knowledge that the people of this forum posess.

I am comfortable with you moving this thread also. It at least got dialogue going and you are right, they are not C5's anyway. But, I have at least enjoyed a couple of opinions of the members here.

Old airplanes were made to be flown; old cars to be driven.

Leaving them to rot in some basement where the rats and mice are making nests and shredding the carpets is a waste.

I doubt if the spoiled rich boy fogged the motors or took any precautions.

I am a true Vette Lover as well, but I am afraid I have to echo Chewy on this one. I am sure many of you heard about the prince of Bruneaigh... however you spell it.... that had several hundred true exotics and when the funds started to run dry they were quickly looted, and destroyed. I didn't care then, about those cars, because they weren't MINE, and I don't care now because it's none of my business (he did legally purchase them). If some rich dipshit wants to buy a bunch of cars and let them rot, who am I to say he shouldn't?? I certainly wouldn't want a bunch of armchair quarterbacks telling me what to do with my stuff. I say good for him, cause every time someone does something like that, it just lends more value to those vehicles that survive.

Just an opinion, hope I didn't offend anyone. If you are offended, well, good, cause that can only mean that you have an opinion as well.

Well said Patrick. If you come to a site like this and post something and then get offended by what someone else says, you are pretty thick skinned anyway.

I just got back from London and flew out of London Gatwick airport. They had a car on display at the airport so I asked about it. I was a Rolls coupe of some type. I asked price, engine type and horse power. In reverse order (sort of): Engine is a V12 rated at I believe he said 525 horsepower.

Price was 110,000 pounds. That is someplace in the neighborhood of 200,000 US dollars. Pretty car but alas, I don't think so. A little work on a C5 or a Z06 and probably blow his doors off. Or, maybe a 2006 Z06...............

By the way, that was thinned skinned if you get offended.
