I am looking for my first Corvette. Hopefully it will be a Red C5 6 Speed with HUD and polished chrome wheels. My problem is I have a 3 year old daughter and I need to be able to turn the passenger airbag off. The ones with this feature seem to be few and far between. Is there a specific year or option package the car needs for this feature. Thank you for your help

The airbag switch became standard in mid-2001. It was not available before that. For other cars, there are companies that offer an aftermarket switch you can install.
Chrome wheels were never a factory option for the C5. However, a high polish version did become available later in production.

As mentioned, the airbag cutoff switch is standard in later C5's, but that can be added to any car. GM used to sell a kit that could be installed by any dealer, I don't know if they still do or not, but there are aftermarket options for that also.
If you find what you're looking for in a pre-2000 C5 you can always get a set of aftermarket chrome Y2K style thinspoke rims for under $1000.

Welcome to the forum. There is nothing more exciting than owning one of these cars. If you want to customize to the way you want, there is a host of products, aftermarket or factory available for you. Good luck and have a ball!

Welcome to the gang ApexrER! Search the web for an after market switch. You might start on ebay. There was an article on corvettefever.com, but it was how to install a C4 cut off switch. Might be some info there.

Welcome to the forum....Bruce is correct as usual. Go with a 2001 and up and look for the cut-off in the glove box.

Apparently GM does not sell the air bag cut off kits anymore. Their legal put a stop to it...
I just discovered this after I bought the glovebox switch and the console piece with the light in it stating the pass AB was off, used off ebay. A parts manager at a GM dealer told me and sent me the memo on it.
I will continue my search, not ready to do it now on my 98 but wanted to install all like GM and use GM connectors at the switches. I cannot even get the connectors anymore, just need one, had the other one already.
You will have a blast with the 6-speed!

In thinking about it, I believe the change came in January or February 2000 for the 2000 models. I'm not sure about a Canadian (or other) export.
