With Hummer up for sale, GM considering similar fate for GMC or Pontiac June20
General Motors announced publicly that its Hummer brand is up for “strategic review”, but it looks as though GM has already made an internal decision about the iconic off-road marque and it will soon be exiled from the GM family. Moreover, the auto giant could be looking to trim one more brand from its portfolio.
According to GM Inside News, GM has already canceled the Hummer H3 GMT-700 program and put its H4 program on life support until Hummer’s new owners take over.
But in addition to giving the Hummer brand the boot, GM is also considering putting another brand on the chopping block. The front runner for extermination looks to be GMC, although Pontiac is also said to be in the mix. GMC would seem to make the most sense as it has no unique products and only offers rebadged trucks and SUVs – not exactly the bread winners in today’s market.
If GM does give GMC the ax, look for Saturn to replace it in the Buick-Pontiac-GMC channel.
Pontiac’s demise is still possible, but less likely. Thanks to popular products like the G6, G8 and Solstice, Pontiac has a much stronger business case than GMC.
Then again, Oldsmobile looked liked the better bet in the early 2000s, but GM pulled its plug in favor of the Buick brand.

I would think that Pontiac has some of the most marketable cars that GM has now.

G5? not really too good G6? dated G8? the v8 is selling great! Solstice? Great vehicle but as the salesman told me yesterday as I test drove the GXP..
The bloom is off the rose for the Solstice..(can't move them)
The torrent? OLD
GM needs surgery and fast.
Slash GMC and pontiac. Merge Saturn, saab and caddy with buick...
Sell saab?
Sell off GMC with HUMMER?
Americans aren't buying american brands anymore..
I don't agree but the public perception...false or not.....they aren't buying the american branded cars like the foreign cars...

GMC and Hummer should definitely get axed. You can get a Chevy truck for less than a GMC and if you are thinking Hummer (no, not that kind) you may as well buy a Tahoe. Aren't they the same with different sheetmetal?

Chevy dealer told me the other day that I could get $8,000.00 off Tahoe and 0% for 5 years.

Smokensparks: Chevrolet trucks and GMC do come off the same assembly lines. I have a friend that is a GMC dealer and on some occasions they will get a GMC pickup with a Chevy tailgate, then have to wait until the correct tailgate comes in to be able to sell it. Must have been a Monday/Friday production pickup.
Keep on Vettin' and Save the Wave!!

Buick's market is literally dying everyday. They should have been axed along with Olds.

I wonder if any regular C6 vettes have been 'accidentally' shipped out with a ZO6 widebody rear end on them Posts: 1539 | From: North Augusta, SC | Registered: Apr 2003

Amazingly Buick sells very strongly in China, where it's seen as a prestige vehicle. Buick should make a version that is not all soft springs and wallow, as every one who has driven the latest cars say they are much better than they expected - especially fit and finish. BUT they have an image problem - not your uncle's Olds, just your Gramps Buick...
