HELLO!!! I just wanted to announce my presence. I have been monitoring this site for about a 2 weeks while waiting anxiously for my C5. I am now the proud owner of a 1997 torch red C5,six speed, sports seats, glass and solid top with 15000 miles. Clean as can be!!! Anyway I wanted to say Hello and I look foward to chatting with fellow C5 owners about anything and everything C5 related!!!! And here is my 1st question. I have noticed that when I turn my stereo down I hear a low whining noise coming from the left rear portion of my car. I think it might be engine noise coming through the speaker but I thought it might be the fuel pump as well. Has anyone else experienced this? Where is the Fuel Pump Located?
Thanks,
David

Welcome to the forum. The noise you are hearing is most liketly the fuel pump as the tanks are located behind the passenger seats. The pump was especially noisy in 97s and early-98s and should have been replaceded with a somewhat quieter unit under a TSB if the original owner(s) complained about it. Sounds like they didn't.

Hello and welcome to the best C5 forum on the net! You should contact GM about the TSB. I'm not sure how they handle them if the warranty is out and you aren't the "original" owner. I suspect they would honor it, but stranger things have happened! You can ask if there are other TSB's for your car, but your best bet is probably to search the internet. TSB's are posted on web sites. I know of at least one I used to look at that would list the TSBs for a car but you had to buy the CD to actually see/read all the info related to it.... I'll look for the link and post it later... unless someone else has one handy for ya. Good luck with the car!

I duno, I kinda like the Robotic sound of the pumps engaging when you turn the key to the autoex portion of the ignition cycle. Sounds like the fuel pumps on an aircraft! After all, we do fly low. Is it just me? Of course, welcome Dahoof! This IS the best Corvette forum on the planet. I know your issue is different and I would follow the advice given by BruceF and Hasbro thus far. I was just pondering away like I normally do in here.... ![[Rotate]](graemlins/rotate2.gif)

It is NOT a recall. It is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). TSBs are generally only performed, for free, under the original warranty if the car owner complains about the applicable problem. I'm not sure about the extended warranty. After that, you have to pay out of pocket.
For the fuel pump replacement, there was an article in the recent Corvette Fever on how this procedure is done.

BTW, if you want to find a list of TSBs and Recalls, check out www.nhtsa.gov and www.alldata.com These sites are about 3-6 months behind tha actual TSB release. And they only have the title of the TSBs.
