Does the recalibrated MAT sensor make any improvements? I ordered that and the "non-turbulence" air flow duct. Any stories?

The sensor will make no noticeable difference in performance... no

I have heard that the sensor works pretty well on 97 & 98 C5s but may cause detonation on later models.

I don't believe you'll notice any difference at all. What type of air duct did you get?

Unbelievable!

This post answers part of a question I had in another post. cheers

MAT = Mass Air Temperature sensor.

Hi-ho-hi-ho, its off to work we go...

Cool - smile

Is relocated MAT sensor same as recalibrated? Ecklers does not mention the recalibration, but Midamerica does. The part is the same price. I ordered relocation from Ecklers.

No. Relocated means it moves the factory sensor elsewhere (say in the flow of a cold air intake system).

Recalibrated means that the sensor itself is changed to cause a false reading (such as 40 degrees F instead of the actual temperature) to fool the PCM into thinking its colder outside than it really is, which increases fuel.

In theory, recalibrated makes the car run a bit richer which is detrimental to power!

(FYI, for the non-techies out there, the reason the car's computer or PCM adds more fuel for a colder temperature is that cold air is more dense than warm air, and since it strives to maintain a constant air:fuel ratio, it adds more fuel to blend with the denser air)

ONLY RELOCATED -
The comments about the MAT sensor actually causing detonation are probably relevant to the recalibrated sensors. The relocated sensor shouldn't cause detonation, should it? confused

I agree, I don't think a new MAF sensor will make that much of a difference. But good luck anyway because you never know.

Just for clarification, MAT = Manifold Air Temperature.
I installed the 85mm Pace MAF which includes it's own MAT located in the same plane as the MAF's sensor. It also comes with an extention cable to connect it to the car's wiring harness. Using Atap I now get a lower MAT than before and more accurate A/F trim's.. I also have MAFT and no bias adjustments are needed since I installed the Pace... I think this is due to great calibration that comes with the Pace, aided by the mass air flow (MAF) and the manifold air temp (MAT) being measured in the same place at the same time... I highly recommend this product...

FYI, its not called a MAT in a C5, OBD-II defines is as Intake Air Temperature (IAT) and that IAT tricker for the $25 bucks all you get is a connector with a 50 cent resistor that is useless most of the time, esp at cold start.
If wanting to do it right you would use an adjustable resistor pot and tune IAT value as needed.

MrEracer, can you provide additional info on the Pace MAF such as vendor, phone # website, etc. smile

Red99,
Contact Jim Pace GM Parts Warehouse at:
1-888-748-4675 or by email; .
My MAF came in a box with GM# 25318411 on it. They offer it with a screen for about $159.00 or de-screened for $179.00 I bought the de-screened one but you can save $20 and de-screen it yourself... Best is to call the toll free number and ask the parts department for the 'LS1, Pace 85mm MAF' sensor. It is substantially larger in diameter than the stock unit which insures that the MAF is not a flow restriction in the induction tract. The unit also comes with a rubber sleeve that makes the installation of the larger diameter unit much easier... Try it, you'll like it... Works better and is cheaper than the Granitelli unit.
