Just to let everyone know that I put together a do it your self guide for the installation of a Hurst shifter. Redshift has posted it in the DIY section of the site.

Lots of pics, it may be a little slow over a dialup connection. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I think everyone should at least check it out - Gil did a fantastic job of what could have been done in a lot less steps with less details - with his article, even someone who has never changed floormats in their car could do a shifter change!

Gil - GREAT JOB man. What are you going to write up for us next? lol

nice Job Torch! The only thing I would add is some folks might want to consider some sound-dampening around the tranny tunnle and even around the base of the shifter. Some use Dynamat, I used something I think is even better called V-Blok from Cascade Audio. It a vinyl based very plyable sound dedening material that really works great. Just something to think about for those considering this mod (or and shifter change, eg, the B&B Ripper).

Cheers,
Cy

Great article, my only questions are,
1. is it possible to just put the old shift knob back on the hurst?

2. How do you rate the hurst, want to upgrade, either hurst or ripper, but I havnt been able to make a decision.

again thanks for the article.

02c5,
The factory knob should fit fine.

Can't make a first-hand comparison to any other aftermarket shifters. But I have had at least one Ripper owner tell me they like my Hurst better.

FYI, the Hurst comes with an assortment of springs to tailor the side to side tension.
(Don't know about the Ripper). The springs supplied "factory" were way to stiff for my liking.

Gil, Thanx for the How-To. I printed it out and used it during my install. I also chose the Hurst because I wanted the white shift ball. LOL. The install took me about 90 minutes and I also used the lightest spring set for the side tension. I am thinking about just using the large soft spring for the 5-6 & reverse side due to the stiffness. I am very happy with the upgrade over the stock one and would recommend to anyone with a stock shifter. cheers
