Ok I've tubbed my car and am able to put 335's in the rear and have got 295's in the front.
My problems is this; I have noticed a significatn reduction in my car's ability to handle with the larger tires. Sure I get good traction off the line, but uneven pavement throws my car all over the place and when I did some autocross runs, my car wasn't nearly responsive as she used to be, read plowing the fields of cones. The tires are pirelli asymetrico's.
So anyway, this winter season I put on my snow tires (goodyear M+S's) and all of a sudden my car handles like a dream and is controllable on our crappy new england roads.
So what's the deal? What would it take to make the bigger tires handle like the smaller ones? Is it alignment? is it the suspension? What am I missing?
Thanks! Chris

Well I've found out that in order to make my 335's handle like my stock tires, I would have to mount at least a 315 in the front. (That is one wide front tire!!!)

As you found out it's all about balance. Since you didn't say how wide the front wheels are, I suggest going to tire rack and looking at the tire specs sections of the tires you have/want. They will give you the range wheel to safely mount a 315. Tires that wide up front are going to give you fits with following wear grooves on those wonderful New England roads and they'll build up your forearm muscles parking.
Good Luck

Yeah I know what you mean about the wear grooves. I am running 295's in the front already with the 335's in the rear and the road just thros my car all over the place. I figured that it was from the 335's but it might be from the front tires more than the rears. I should throw on my stock size tires with the 335's and see if that makes a difference.
perhaps I should look into getting a thinner rear tire?
How do the viper guys handle it (they have 335's as the stock size)?

I believe the vipers have a similiar issue with tracking on public roads with the wider tires.. It might just be the nature of the beast but it could be alignment issues...? Maybe some of the guys who mount larger tires and wheels..like you have...over at www.zo6vette.com could give insight. Thank you for letting us in on your efforts. JB

for auto X loosen or disconnect the front anti sway bar and hang on because it will turn in very quickly
