Cam install

I am looking to install a cam on my 02 a4 vette, right now I have blackwing intake and no muffers are basically my only mods. My car dynoed at 320 rwhp. My question with installing a cam is what cam would be good to install with stock ls1 heads and a what kind of power can i expect. Also how much is a typical cam install and can it be done at the dealership or do you have to go to a tuner. I live in the st.louis area and i don't know of alot of vette tuners around me. Thanks

traditionally with an automatic your better off first doing torque convertors and gears...(3500 dollars installed)
I'd recommend a supercharger though and leaving the torque convertor and gears alone..(7500 installed)
A cam without a torque convertor and gears will from what I've read over the internet over the years be disappointing. (slower than stock even in some cases)

Ahh, well that sucks, Well if i can't do a cam I think im just gonna sell it and get something different. The c5's stock performance is pretty disappointing and i guess i really screwed myself by buying an a4 car because it seems they are unmod-able. Thanks for the heads up. I couldn't imagine getting a cam and actually going down in performance over stock that would really be embarassing.

The best mod for an A4 on the cheap is the torque convertor and gears...and then do a cam....I'd see that as a 5 grand mod..........
10s in the quarter?
but for the street? I'd do a 7 grand supercharger with transmission cooler (no convertor and/or gears)

Sounds like your not digging your ride..so yeah...get rid of it. Buy something you'd enjoy more...... I'd imagine you should be able to sell it. Good luck JB

Good idea JB, he should just sell it to someone who enjoys Corvettes and buy a dragster so he will have the performance he is looking for. Good luck to sludoc!

I don't get it? You are saying that the Corvette is not quick. I don't know about yours, but mine is fast. I have raced a few like the Mustang GT,Cobra,Charger,Z28 and a Suzuki 600 and I beat them all. I did not go looking for them they all came up to me racing there engine and trying to get my corvette to run them. Sure there are cars out there faster than mine and super charged and all that. But stock there is not much that will stay with a corvette. On a race track there is not much that will keep up with a corvette in the curves and straight aways. IMO the corvette is the best sports car on the road for the money. I enjoy mine. It puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

A Corvette is a "turd"? A Corvette isn't at least "somewhat quick"? I have myself never driven the A4 but I can say that my stock M6 is way more car than you could ever use on the road and as much car as most people would ever use on a track. Sure there are probably people that would push harder than the average person but there are special cars made for that. I just cant imagine what a guy had in mind buying a Corvette and then consider it a turd.

Well the problem I have with the corvette is that I bought mine new in 2002 for over 50 grand, its loaded with every option plus the adjustable suspension millenium yellow etc. , except its an a4 because i didn't want to deal with a clutch in traffic. Then my friend goes and spends 18 grand for a stock mustang GT throws a supercharger on for 4 grand and he can easily blow me away now. Honestly the "corvette" is not the best sports car you can buy for the money. Its a rip off for the money. For 50 grand I think you should get alittle better than 13.6 quarter mile runs at 102. Then when i try to go to mod this piece of crap in hopes of just keeping up by putting in a cam, J.B says that with an a4 car, a cam is gonna make it slower and that basically you can't mod an a4 car. I seem to believe him because he has plenty of mods on his car too. The funny thing is most of you people that have posted to try to call me an idiot have your mod list with superchargers, cams, heads and so forth, so it seems you weren't too happy with the vette's stock performance either.

SELL, SELL, SELL before the price goes down. Get you a pony car and put you a supercharger on it and have fun! The corvette is not just a stright line muscle car, it is a all around performance sports car with handling and top speed that the pony cars don't even come close too! Everybody wants to make there car just alittle faster than stock. It is in our nature. Your A4 must be a 273 rearend not a 315. Good luck on the dragstrip.

JB did NOT say you can't modify an A4 car. If you read his post he said the place to start is with a torque converter and gears. And this is the place most people with A4s will start. This is where you'll see the most gain for the money, on balance. He is right in that just a cam can lose power. These cars were well designed from the start with every component working to complement each other. If you do a cam, you also need to replace the heads and have a PCM tuning done, at least, to avoid a loss in power.
