I am starting to modify my 2004 C5 and have heard that an aftermarket air intake was a good "first mod."

Any suggestions on air intakes?
Best Performance/value?

I hear the Blackwing is good value however other designs such as that of the aFe stage 2 intake system seem more favorable.

I think that the Blackwing is about as good as it gets!

Think before you leap at mods. Intake will produce great results but really they are all pretty much the same in terms of performance. I think the Vram is junk but thats my issue. Be smart there are many ways to go think it through before you spend money and chase phantom horse power. The C5 is fast as it sits faster than most of us ever get to use. I like the blackwing

I think Carl once said that Vararam produced most power, with Halltech next. Also, if you look at the K&N web site you will find that their intake system does not give as much of a hit on later models as early ones. That's probably the same for any of them. I used Halltech because I got a good price, fitting was (fairly) straightforward, and it has made a noticeable difference at WOT. And when you get the OEM air box out you wonder how the engine got any air at all.

I really like the K&N filter. It made a big difference on my 97 A-4 3:15.

Thanks for the posts.

I think I might lean toward the Blackwing since I've consistantly heard good things about it and I am on a low budget.

leadfoot-
Great advice. I am a bit excited for craming some hallow horses in my C5. I know it may be fast enough; however, working on my vette is something I will look to enjoy for many years to come. Any gain is a step in the right direction.

Excitement is the right term but temper it with thinking thru what you are going to do and benefit from others that have been thru it. Like avoid the throttle body by pass the jet chip etc. It all depends on what you intend to do with that great car. There have been those whose excitement led to their cars demise ie a kid put nitros on his new car and turned the key and blew the pistons out of the block. Be careful and think ahead but most of all enjoy your great car. Things like wires plugs intake and exhaust return great performance gains with little adverse impact. Good luck and much fun

You can pretty well find great deals on used Blackwings in the forums in the parts for sale sections.
