If you are gonna change your LS1 intake for an LS6 or a FAST or other major mods good headers are a got to.. What do you think?

The only possible regret in installing LT headers was that I lost my x-pipe, not neccesarily a bad thing, I kind of like the rumble and gurgle it makes, it did add about 20 hp. I agree, don't skimp out on cost, you get what you pay for.....

Ever hear the old saying....Hindsights 20/20? I had a set of FLP headers on my 2001 Z06 and I thought they were the biggest pain in the butt..

For the longest time ...the car ran weird and no one could figure it out...

Then one day it went up on the lift and lo and behold the L bracket on the headers that went to the bellhousing broke...I got it welded..it broke again and again...It was a pain in my butt because it kept throwing off the 02 sensor readings and the car was always out of tune..

Finally got a replacement set and they kept burning my wires..(even with kool sox..) Finally ripped those off and put a set of Vette doctor headers ( I forgot the name..) and they were pretty good..

Truth be told though? I'd suggest passing on the headers and all the small bolt on mods..ie. throttle body...Manifold etc...

Just leave the car stock with an aftermarket air filter.. and when you're ready to fork over the cash...(about 6600 dollars installed) get a light boost supercharger and thats it...

Doesn't pay to do all the small bolt ons...Just leave your 170 mph rocket as is and enjoy it..

If you really want more? Then in one fell swoop drop the 6600 dollars installed and tuned and walk away with 500rwhp easy..

Good luck deciding...(and remember you asked for opinions...)

JB

I picked up a pair of coated TPIS long tubes, X-pipe and RT Cats from off a friend's '02 Z. It's a long story, but I got a helluva deal. Everything bolted up to my B&B PRT's and the Vette has made sweet music ever since. Got it tuned after the Honker intake was installed. Now she makes 350/350 (HP/TQ) to the wheels. Except for upgrading my crappy head lights and sound system, I'm probably done with mods...I think. devileek

Yeah, I agree and this is why I have not done this to my car.

Besides what you list, manual trans guys have to worry about boiling the clutch fluid. Thus a good header and possibly wrapping it may stop this.

If anything, I will get a set of Z06 headers and use them. Gains would probably be minimal at the most. I'll take my 330/340 RW power numbers as is though.

I would stay away from headers. Because of the problems listed by J.B. And they don't give that much extra hp and they make for a hot engine compartment. K&N filter,Borla Stinger exhaust and X pipe and hyper tech programed is enough. Or get a professional tune by a performance shop. Less problems is a good thing. JMO

Norm, I also have the K&N intake, Borla stinger and X pipe. what will the hyper tech program do?. The car seems to run fine as is.
