I am looking for a slightly louder exhaust note from my '02 coupe without the expense of the aftermarket systems. I can pick up a low milliage '01 Z06 muffler assembly cheap. Do the Z06 mufflers have less back pressure? If I upgrade my standard mufflers to these Z06 mufflers, will they be louder? Will I get better performance? Thanks.

Welcome Congrats on owning the great C5. It is a fantastic machine. Even with the few problems and challenges the Corvette comes with. The Z06 exhaust is made of titanium it will last forever and it is lighter and it flows somewhat better. It is hard to weld. Will it be louder..a little bit and it will flow better but the flow is dependant on what is in front..the exhaust mainfold and the h pipe. Your 02 isnt as restricitve at the h pipe as earlier cars but your z06 exhaust upgrade would be better with an after market x pipe. The stock manifolds flow pretty good and there isnt much improvement with hi flow cats. The cross over pipe is the key. A little better flow and the weight reduction from the titanium and a tad more Corvette sound. Would I do it. No.. aftermarket cat back used an an xpipe will get you where you wanna go. Especially if you intend to keep the car.. Good luck with whtaever you do the C5 is a keeper. Put some miles on it and you will know what I mean

Thanks for the welcome and the advise. It was very helpfull. Thanks Chewy for the price range & install info. I think I can get the Z exhaust for $200. I love the C5. It's affordable, fast (enough for me)and comfortable to drive. I need to stay cheap on the mods because I am SLOWLY restoring my 67 roadster that I've had for 30 years.

$200 is a great price. Just be sure there are no welds needed. Love those mid year Corvettes 67 was the epitome of Chevy muscle. Tell me it has side pipes Was that the last year for the mighty 427 until the new LS7 smallblock 427? Best of Luck

Thanks for the advise, My '67 is just the basic roadster with 300HP/327 and 4 speed. No sidepipes. NO power windows or steering. At least the numbers match. Difficult for me to drive these days with my cell phone and coffee mug.

I'm a jealous dog as I would love to have a 67 roadster. 327 was a bullet proof power plant. Your vert sounds like the original intended Corvette no frills just tons of fun. ENjoy you lucky dog got the best of the Corvettes in your hand

I got them and I too did not want to rattle my brain, or be the loud Vette in my subdivision. So I went with the Z06 mufflers. I like the look and in some weird way I like to count up all the Z06 parts I have on my car! LOL!!!
$200 is a great buy, I paid more for mine two years ago.
There will be some notice in sound. Possibly I notice more since I have a manual trans, I dunno...
Make sure they have not been cut off the other car! If so, pass on them...

Thanks MiCorvette-Tool guy, Good to hear from someone that installed a Z06 exhaust on a standard C5. You upgraded your X pipe and Leadfoot mentioned an after market X pipe. What benifits did your Bola X pipe get you?

The Borlas are less restrictive than the Z06 exhaust and lighter weight as well. I've used Borlas on other cars in the past and can tell you their quality and performance is excellent, especially with the "X" pipe. The "X" pipe smoothes out the exhaust tone and eliminates the popping sound. It also will give you a few more horsepower.

I did the X pipe more from necessity, since the GM H pipe cracked on me and was ratteling. Supposedly the X pipe yields 5 more HP. I had my car dyno'ed after all the mods, so I can't comment just on the X pipe, other then the exhaust sound was more smooth.

Hunt down a used one and save maybe 150 they are stainless and last forever. Just make sure it matches up to your cats and ti exhaust
