This can be many things. Weak battery, altenator ready to crap out, loose belts, bad grounds loose battery terminals, yadyada Does it present when other demand for electricity is presented? Are the bulbs loose? One side or both flicker? These are the questions I would ask myself. I start with the easy stuff and move toward having the altenator tested. If the alt there is a very specific one needed for our cars. Not just any will work without issues. You need the one made in France if I recall correctly..I hope that isnt is though probably something simple. Best of Luck

If it's both sides I'd guess the switch on the arm, for only one I'd guess the ground. Schematics are here and here .

Thanks guys. It occurrs to both headlights at the same time and I've never seen any effect on the instrument lights. I was thinking the switch, but never considered the alternator. Battery is good. I'll run through the service manuals again today. Good snow day project to keep away the "honey do's".

The headlights reveal the electrical current. Could be any number of things that cause the flicker. A mini short somewhere, a weak ground, a loose belt or the alt taking a dump worst case. Could be a loose battery cable either at the battery or frequently at the starter. Doesn't necessarily have to be the headlights at all. They just show the electrical flow is weak or interrupted. Go get it Sherlock and best of luck. Hopefully it is something simple

It's a quick drop off and then return to normal light. If the lights are out for tenth of a second I'd be surprised. Checked every connector and ground couldn't find anything wrong. Taking the battery in today to get it tested. I'm really starting to lean toward the switch.

If it was a battery or alternator issue, there would almost definitely be other things affected. But from the info you gave, it has to be something common to both lights. By looking at the schematics, Relay #44, the switch, or the dreaded loose/broken wire are really the only possibilities.
Try replacing the relay first, it shouldn't be that expensive. One thing to try to save some cash, if there's an identical relay to 44, just swap them, but take note of which system you put the 44 on. If the lights are fixed, but the other system starts acting up, bad relay. If the lights still flicker, then possibly the switch.
Try turning on the lights and attempt to make them flicker. Tap the relay, pull some wires, wiggle the stalk....
