Got to checking the age of my tires and they are like 9 years old. Lots and lots of tread left however. The Vette sets in the garage and I can't see any weather cracks or anything. Is it time for a new set? ( They are Goodyear run flats )

Tires are supposedly good for 6-10 years depending on the environment, care, usage, etc. If you can't see any cracking, I wouldn't rush out to change them. I would keep inspecting them more often. But, keep in mind that they will need it sooner rather than later.

Sounds to me Jamie that you're alright. But I'd sure keep an eye on them.

Last year my son purchased a 2009 C6 with the Z51 suspension. I drove it and could not believe how smooth it drove as compared to my 2001 C5 that had only 15,000 miles and the original Gooodyear runflats.

My front tires were worn only about 25% and the rears about 50%.

I decided that even though my tires still had lots of tread and showed no signs of cracking, it was time to replace the 9 year old tires.

When the tire dealer saw my car, he could not understand why I wanted to purchase new tires. However, when the installer removed the first wheel/tire from the car and bounced it onto the floor, he said "OMG, these tires are as hard as rocks. Now I know why you want to replace them."

I purchased the latest Goodyear runflats and the car rides totally different than with the old tires - much smoother than my son's C6. Just driving slowly in and out of my garage over the lip on the garage floor is a totally different experience. No more clunk as I drive over the lip.

I feel that the new tires made such an improvement in the ride and handling of my C5 that it was well worth the cost of the 4 new tires.

Also, I now had the peace of mind that I was driving on new tires, not 9 year old tires.

Yes...5 years would be about right for tires...maybe a few more if you feel its right..

Changing tires sooner would be a good idea.

I chose hankook evo 12's from discount tire direct.com and I paid 684 delivered and these tires are clearly the high performance tire that car and driver's most recent tire test...stated....

Equal to the michelin PS2 in just about every performance, handling and ride quality...yet for all four tires I paid 684...delivered...

Locally had them intalled at the local gas station who mounted and high speed balanced all four tires....for 100 bucks..

I am pretty cheap whe it comes to street tires, so I would probably keep them, but I wouldn't drive fast on them. I acquired a set of Hoosiers that had never been driven but were very old. They had no grip and just turned to dust when I did use them. Tires contain volatile compounds which evaporate over time whether you use them or not.

I think I should go ahead and start looking for a new set.

Thanks for the input.

I would say that you're fine on the current tires as long as they don't show any signs of leaking or dryrot.

One thing I'm sure we can all agree on, you need to drive your vette a lot more hammer

Mine are 7 yrs old and 35,388 I'm going to bite the bullet. I'll go run-flat but can't decide on the maker....Best of Luck Hotwing

Also I'm 67 and I now drive the Vett more because you never know when your ticket will get punched...you only get to go around one time......and I have had a few close calls lately.

Love that philosophy just can't stand run flats.. I will try to live more according to your philosophy cause I think you are right. You might consider non run flats cause I might be right about them.. either way best of luck and I hope we avoid the ticket punch and the tire puncture for as long as possible
