Recently I've suspected my city MPG has decreased. I used to get around 16 which I understand is probably not that good. I checked it recently and am now getting 12-13 MPG. The car seems to run fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the codes stored in the DIC and post all of them.

Check under hood for the air box and bridge connections, spark plug wires, etc.

Could be a dirty air filter, clogged fuel filter, or just in need of a tune up, but checking the codes and obvious connections at the intake is a good start.

Under inflated tires or certain tire brands over others can lessen your mileage.

dirty Air filter, lead foot will do it too...

for me..thats always what gets me...I would suggest as we get used to the speed...the thrill etc...we want more and get accustomed to the acceleration..

what most people would think is hard driving...we get used to...and so my suggestion..

Is check and clean the air filter, make sure your tires are properly inflated (to I believe 30psi) and make a conscious effort to be light on the throttle for the next fill up.

fill up and check the mileage..

If your using the driver information center....remember that idling the car for whatever reason...ie. washing it...drying it..sitting in traffic...listening to the stereo and have the car running while your signifigant other is shopping will eat gas mileage big time.

Reset the D.i.C.. and make a conscious(SP) effort to drive like you would imagine an automatic transmission would..

For me...I can move my around the mileage from 13 - 14 to 20 mpg just by driving my manual transmission vette like my automatic transmission cadillac cts.

Good luck and let us know what you find out..

One more thing....Gasoline now has E10 ethanol and that will drop your mileage compared to all gasoline mixtures..

How much I don't know but it does effect performance and fuel economy a bit...(5%?)

No more than the average Corvette driver. Once in a while, of course.

Well, Ive driven fast cars all my life and my Corvette isn't that fast in comparison. So, yes, I do get into it some, but, not that much. I guess my point is, I haven't changed my driving habits and the mileage is worse. I'm going to try the codes and a tune up and see if that helps. Thanks to all who responded.

I went from a 6-speed '01, to an automatic '03.
I have noticed a big difference in my gas miliage. On the standard, I was getting around 480 miles to the tank at about 70mph and 1800 rpm. Now on the automatic I am getting around 300 miles to the tank at 70 mph and this time at around 2100rpm. Is this normal? I suspect I have the performance gearing because when I punch it on the highway, it takes off like a bat out of hell compared to the standard '01. Would it state on the build sticker on the glove box that I do, and what would the code be? Thanks in advance.

Question: Is your AC on at all times or just sparingly?

Inside the glove box on the door gu92 for 315 rear. Dirty air filter and worn out plugs and wires are my 2 cents. Fuel filters also need to be changed when was yours last changed?

Leadfoot is right on checking your rearend gear. I have the 315 performance rearend from GM and I get alittle less gas mileage than my 273 rearend Corvette buddies. But I love the performance the 315 gives me so it is worth a few less miles per gallon. I get around 16-17 city and 24-25 highway. But when you punch it, your gone!
