For those of you enjoying the ZO6 which I happen to think is an awesome car..Can you give examples of how and why its better?
Not a flame feast..not a slam down bs session..just the reality of what you as the owners enjoy about it?
Since this is special section with respect to ZO6 owners...I would hope no one w/o a ZO6 will be insulted by the answers..
I thought for those of us who could appreciate your experiences..it would be fun for all involved.

I would not be insulted. BUT...I test drove a Z06 before buying my vert. The Z06 was a beast and tore me a new one. Then I light modded my '01 vert. and this car is very close. I wish the Z06 had more power (not a enough difference in HP over a standard C5).

ACCELERATE and CORNER....Traction = Z06 Best answer given C5tech The Z06 is for the HARD CORE vette drivers as explained by the General GM expects Only 20 percent of new corvettes will be ordered as Z06's That said, it is an awesome car for those that want that LEVEL of performance I went from a 96 LT-1 to a 98 LS 1 to the 01 LS6 Each step has been a major performance improvement The ride is harsher,(better cornering).... more noise(more power), stiffer body and fewer options(hardtop..lighter weight) That said ...the performance is why I buy corvettes, jmho

All Corvettes are quick..the convertible probably has the closest feeling of being one with the road..just by its very nature..I've had lots of convertibles and have autocrossed the convertible and the coupe...I liked the closeness to the road feeling the convertible held over the coupe..just a feeling but thats what most of this is about anyway..I personally like the look of the coupe..and please..any one reading this don't interpet this as a flame b/c its not..its just a BS session..The targa top off the coupe doesn't come any where near the convertible..
What I will say is the ZO6 is the epitomy of what the corvette stands for..The ultimate yet balanced machine made in America that competes with the best from around the world..
Thumper or anyone else....any chance you'll take that ride on the track or run it hard on the road and give us different examples of how much better it is and why.....? Not for flames but for kicks....I think it would be interesting reading!
Who wants to hear magazine editors when we can tap into our own great resource..Bring it on guys..
ZO6 rules!

The Z06 is really a completely different car. I don't know what else to say... Just a completely different machine. Very aggressive and mean.... This is not your grandfathers Corvette. I respectfully dissent with C5TECH. Light mods are NOT going to get you "very close" to a Z06, particularly in handling. I'm not knocking the coupes or convertibles, if I could own 2 the second would be a convertible. However, the Z is a different animal - put them both on any race track in the country, with a competent driver, and the difference will be obvious.

I just wanted to know as you brake, accelerate or corner how and what the differences were..
For example...when you pull out of a turn..does it accelerate harder..? if so by how much would you quantify it..
Just a bs session nothing more..

I feel much more in control of the Z06 than I did in the 97 C5 when pushing it. The car is easier to position in the corners and at 80-90% you can still change your line. The 97 was squishy by comparison - near the limit I had to be very smooth. The Z is more forgiving of late braking and late turn-in. In other words the Z06 copes much better with transitions. Yes, it pulls harder out of a turn and you can get into the throttle sooner than with other C-5s. So far the best comparison I can give you is with on/off ramps. I have my favorites in my home-base area and know from experience what kind of speed was challenging but not dangerous in the 97. Those speeds that got the adrenalin pumping in the 97 are boring in the Z. As to braking, I doubt if there's much difference in stopping distance despite the bigger, stickier tires. The important difference is the handling under hard braking - the Z is more forgiving to errors. Go too deep into a turn, realize you're in trouble and brake hard can be a tricky operation in any car. The Z won't defy the laws of physics but your chances of keeping it out of the weeds are better.

JerryL: I totally agree with your statement about the Z06 on the track. I was referring to the practical performance differences on the street. I do not consider a vert. a viable track car anyway.

Redshift,
Yes, you need Z06 seat time. In your current position there ought to be a way to make it a tax write-off.
C5TECH, would have to agree with your latest reply - practicality speaking there's not much difference but then, who among us buy these things to be practical?

JerryL

I think we all..as corvette owners can appreciate the added capabilies of this car!!!! No question my Z is 'quicker' and more agile and sensitive to road influences than my '98 Targa. The Z06, as indicated above, is a very nasty machine that is designed primarily for hard-core Corvette folks (no open-air stuff, noisier, little harder on the rump, etc).
I compare the Z06 dead-on to my recent 1967 NCRS Top Flight L36 427/390HP beast in terms of straight-ahead acceleration/torque feel, and miles ahead of the C2s in handling, of course.
Too bad there's lots of snow and salt here now! ---------------
