If I understand this correctly..the little MB SLK32 AMG smokes the vette..in this months motor trend the numbers were dam impressive..

That little bugger even beats out the M3..WTF..I think MB has got its sh-t together on finding its sporting side..

I wouldn't buy the little car but Dam if thats not one hell of performance..

Got to give credit where credit is due..When the next version comes out..watch out...Vette lovers..

SLK! I thought you said CLK!

I've been keeping up to speed on the latest enhancements to come out of Germany on the CLK, so this one slipped right by me.

I know the 2003 Sport Version of the CLK will be on par with the Vette in terms of power. There is a German auto-sport testing facility that puts all "performance" cars through their paces. The prototype CLK with 10:1 Supercharger and rear wheel drive was turning in track times lower than the Z06 that they tested that same week! And, this was just the not-for-sale-yet version of the soon to be released CLK.

My Wife loves the car and wants one. When she found out about the new CLK Supercharger option and sport suspension package to be released soon, she decided to wait. I think the price of the new CLK SuperCar will put it up there in 2003 Viper teritory. Not a teritory you really want to be in if your going to pull me away from my C5.

But, if the make the car for around $50k - hmmmm. I like doing 207 miles per hour right off the showroom floor just like the next guy - hey - I'm human! And, with the plushness of a Mercedes - Ouch!

I believe the whole movement towards sports has MB..moving harder and harder on BMW M series performance..In fact..I think in many ways they have surpassed it..

Thats what I wanted to bring forth with this thread...those CLK or slk supercharged cars are really hauling..

I find the technology..they are using in the drivetrain to be interesting if not expensive..

Would I buy one..probably not...just the look I like..same thing for the m3..I dig the execution of performance..just not into the box..

The new little mid engined Jaguar F type coming in 2004 or so..might be more my taste..but somehow I think the 300 hp would come up light..

Hold out for the C6 your going to be pleasently surprised and the other car manufacyurers who are turning out cars to meet C5 performance are going to be not so pleasently surprised when the C6 enters the program and roasts them for 30K less.

Carl..no question the M5 you have is excellent..but the new 7 series just doesn't do it..
in fact in this months Road and track (which also happens to cover a new red sports car..near and dear to your heart! )

Its really interesting watching these two brands move to opposite extremes from where they were..

I wouldn't be surprised to see BMW do an about face on future product lines..

They ought to fire that guy who let that seven series in to production..

Now, this is the similar direction that I would like to see GM move in for the C7 project. Calling it a Corvette Prototype and giving it around 700hp with a fully adjustable on-the-fly suspension set up, would be the way to get my business for the next 30 years, at least!

Imagine your C7 looking somewhat like this, but managing to retain the traditional Corvette look and stance:



The back of this car looks strikingly similar to our current C5. Notice how the rocker panels flow up to the right-side front fender well. Hmmmm? Looks familiar???

That makes that Viper look pale in comparison on many different levels!

They even recommend that when the car arrives from overseas, that you install the GM LS1 all aluminum Powerplant coupled to the Porsche G-50, or 6 Speed transaxle.

Interesting that they would suggest the GM platform for power!

...this would mean that you could send your new GTR to Lingenfelter for engine installation just prior to having your Twin Turbo package bolted on this monster!!! Oooooooooooooccccchhhhh!

Of course, that will cost you another $40,000.00 making your new GTR a $125,000.00 SuperCar.

I was stuck on that $89,000.00 base price thinking to myself, "Self - this might be in the picture". But, then self said, "why not just go ahead and buy the Modena 360 instead". Self then said, "because, the GTR looks even better!!!"
