Hey folks it's been a while,
Anyway I am looking into options for putting bi-xenon hid lamps in my current T84 setup and I was wondering if anyone here has done that. Any equipment preferences? I am thinking about the CATZ Rising White 4300k H4 kit.
Will I need projectors? What's missing in a kit like that? Any help would be awesome!
Thanks! Chris

c'mon I _know_ there are a few of you on this forum that have hid's with the T84's(euro headlamps). Why the silence?

I would recommend against it. They vibrate like crazy. Standard Euro lenses with high wattage bulbs are more than sufficient IMO.

Hey Brian! I just ordered replacement PIAA bulbs from you for my setup, but it got me to wondering about if the HID's would last longer than the bulbs. My car already vibrates like crazy with the halogens (due to my DRM anti-sways) and it hasn't bothered me that much. Do you think that the vibration is due more to the cutoff in the lens or the fact that the HID's have much higher output? I have had some performance problems with the halogens with outrunning them at high speed (yes I am a psycho ) So another thing I was wondering is if the HID's (4*00k of course) would perform better. Sometimes it seems that my PIAA 1100x's are putting out better light than the PIAA halogens. Or perhaps that is because the 1100x's are dichroic and put all sorts of different color light everywhere. I'm not sure but I think that after driving some of my friends ///M3's with HID's I had a much more pleasing expirence with having the extra light for nighttime naughtiness. Apart from the vibration, is there any ofther issues like not having a projector or something that would make HID's suck in the T84's? Many thanks! And of course thanks to you Brian for having an awesome lighting setup available at PFYC. I've never been dissatisfied with you folks for anything. Chris

I think the vibration is due to the sharp cutoff combined with the high intensity of the lights causing a visual distraction for you.
I won't disagree that a properly designed HID system will kill a halogen system as far as performance, but the C5 headlamp wasn't designed with HID in mind, and its just not the right application for it.

I wonder how long it will be before someone comes up with a HID retrofit for the C5. Like mating the Audi projector with the T84 casing.
Even with the auto-levelling systems they have now, there's a lot of vibration with HID's in cars that were designed to have them. Those systems only work good for when you're going over hills and things like that.
Luckily with the high wattage PIAA's that I have (which are pretty damn bright!) I have gotten used to the vibration thing you're talking about. It's even more pronounced since I've got those DRM anti-sway bars letting me feel the tiniest bump in the road.
My biggest hangup was that I couldn't get highbeams with an HID kit. Turns out that they've been out for a while (yayy!). Except now conversion kits are banned for import and sale in the U.S. (doh!) There's a lot of info on the hidforum.com site. I probably would have had more of a choice if I had made the decision to put in HID's last summer. Ahh well. At least I was able to get the CATZ kit I wanted. I will see how well it performs over those awesome PIAA 90/135 watt bulbs.
Chris
