I got code P1870 -- Tranny slip. I removed the tranny (my first time on a C5). Got it to the shop to have it rebuild. I reinstalled every thing. Start the car and I got a lot of vibration. 8pm last thursday. I removed the tranny. Finished at 23:30. Got to the shop Friday morning at 10am. I asked for an other torque convertor. I get home an start to put it back together. 6pm and all the part are back together. Test the car and every thing is fine.

I took the opportunity to repalce the diff seals.

I took 100 pictures. I will make a DIY on my web site soon. There are a lot of DIY for M6 but not a lot for A4. There are somme differences.

Here are a few pics of my 'Mechanic' at work.

Everyone knows that transmission service is best performed in a thong.Try to get it right next time or your credibility may suffer. :DChuck.

Yes, this is what they say in the service manual. lol

Actually, it was done perfectly. The problem is that I got a bad torque convertor the first time that was causing vibration. I got an other new torque and everything was fine. I had to remove everything to install that second torque....

Out of balance the problem with tc? You rebuilt the entire A4 tranny in your garage? Congratulations that is quite a peice of work! You saved a lot of money!! I have rebuilt manual transmissions but never an auto wouldn't try but if you did then I might try and send you mine... I would like to upgrade my A4 to an A6 someday with the paddle shifter please. Congrats again 747 cheers

Yes, out of balance problem with TC. I got a new torque, but it was bad. This is why I had to do it again with an other new torque.

Actually, I did not rebuild the tranny myslef. I removed the tranny and gave it to the shop for rebuild. I watch the tech putting it all a part. I would say that it looks easy when you have done it once. I'm sure with some training I could do it.

I would like to upgrade to A6 too.

I'd like to go A6 also but from what I understand there is a computer language mismatch.
