Have to start a thread on our C5 and what a great car it is. I offer the fact that I have never owned a car this long(nearly 10 years) and I am still completely happy with it. Mods are always coming up and some have been irresistable and my C5 has gotten better. The sway bar end links, the headlights the shocks all have been and needed improvement.
As it sits, it is worth way more than current prices. I cannot imagine buying a c3 or a c4 for more than a c5. A long production run and many cars produced and then the economy add to the low prices the C5 can be had for. Anyone that can grab a C5 for 15 to 20k is crazy not to make the leap.
It has great street manners is comfortable and goes like a bat out of hell when the pedal is mashed. It is easily upgrade as most C6 suspension parts bolt up and the engine is readily modified with many options to chose from.
It rides and handles better than every car I have owned. Only the porsche, my buddy lets me drive is better on the skid pad and that is awd.
The built in code reader, easy to work on, the longevity of the drive train, man what a car. Yes, there are weak links and short comings but all in all, I may never buy another car! I aint selling it for what the market is, that is for sure.
So now, it is maintenance and upgrades the headlights really need some work and I got the euro codes and PIAA bulbs but the light and the adjusters are crap.
Anyway, I just wanted to start a blog on the C5 and why it is such a great American machine. That is why I cruise this forum. What are you thinking?

My project is coming along slow. I would say do your research before purchasing. I thought I had the general LS1 stuff down having come from a 99 T/A WS6. I was not ready for the electrical fun the C5 provides and "Corvette Tax". Got the car cheap due to missing gears in the transmission.
My goal is to upgrade my C5 to ZO6 standards. Not happy with the current aftermarket wheels and the latest suspension issue will need to see more work. The manuals help and of course great forums like this one.
I smile when I drive it now, despite the car being no where near completion, but still get someone saying "nice car" at the gas pump, I feel good.

I'd say your right on the money when you say the c5 is the smokin deal of the sports car world..

Don't get me wrong..I dig the c6 I bought...but me selling the c5 z06 was a mistake..

I should have dropped a new motor in...when the modded one took a dump..

My recommendation to anyone looking....GO for the c5...over the c6..

The C6 is a nice evolution but the prices of c5's right now make them the strongest performing 20 grand preowned sports car out there..

IMO

I have the 4l60e in mine. This automatic transmission isnt like the one you think about when considering manual or auto crazy . It is computer controlled with manual operation option. I had an upgraded trans installed when mine went south at 50k miles(due to severe service, 3-4 clutch pack started to slip  ).
Upgraded pump, bands and clutches it shifts incredibilly/instantly with no lag or wind up, at all. It is like "flat shifting" a manual only no missed shifts no overreving just awesome devilgrin

I love my '01 and would never think of parting with it. Not even for the new "split window coupe" coming out for 2011. Where else get you get open air driving and great performance for the price? The newer ones are nice, but my older one is like new!

Split window? Gotta see it! I got 68k miles on my Corvette. I haven't had any real problems to speak of. Anything that has happened has been electrical had the rear leak burned the tranny from hard use caused by this leadfoot I was born with. It's black and a pain in the arse to keep clean but it is sexy and the women swoon when I nail it. It gets rubber in three gears without any effort and it is way better than viagra for woody production. What can I say my C5 is sooo good cowboy

I never looked back at the Mustang MACH 1 I was looking to buy...... So glad I listened to "ME" and decided to look into Corvettes-for almost the same amount of $$$ I bought the SUPERCAR. Even with some minor problems it still kicks A$$ and turns heads.
Although I am currently collecting unemployment and paying off two..... well One "CAR" (MBZ C230) and one SUPERCAR ( VETTE ) i will still try and hold on to it as much as possible and make the most out of it, the economy can slow me down , wont buy Health insurance, but will never PREVENT me from owning a VETTE `cause this is an unforgettable experience of owning one of Americas most iconic cars ever built...... CORVETTE , say it with me : CORVETTE

I'm not really wild about that concept. Especially the Lambo doors.

I never got the lambo door thing crazy
The C5 has got some awesome lines I got 2 compliments just today. I wil be taking the BSM off over the winter. Time for a change and the car looks great without them. my reluctance was based on them being a functional option and taking them off was like throwing money away and subjecting my doors to dings and what not. I never park where anyone can hit me and I have gotten the money's worth out of them so off they come.
Looked at the C6Z of all Corvettes on ebay posted over at Corvettemechanic.com. It is awesome 1200HP twin turbo with every tweak you could imagine even in Yellow I would buy if I had 89k to drop. No doubt the seller lost his license and had to sell with 6k miles. Didn't meet the reserve even at 82k bid. It is worth the money. If I knew how to cut and paste the link I would it is how to mod a supercar awesome machine!
