Needing a little advise. My baby had a little fever Friday running around 220-230. And that was in very slow traffic and stand stills. After I got back up to speed the cool down was back to norm 180 or so. I had this same thing happen about a month ago and I cralwed under to find a paper cup and all kind of straw in the radiator. So I took an air hose and blew it all out . At least what I could see. I looked into the radiator shield that goes underneth from WCC. Does anybody have any suggestion or have had the same type of situation happen. I don't like to see her running that high a fever.

Thanks...

Sounds pretty normal. You do have to check the radiator for debris on a regular basis. I saw a post on adding a homemade screen to help prevent this issue. You might try a search.

The stock t-stat is set for 192*, so it gets pretty warm sitting in traffic with no forced airflow. 230* is pretty much normal.

I found this DIY info on another site:

Quote:
Cost breakdown:
$7 for a 3'x5' sheet of mesh from home depot.
$3 for two 1 1/2" #8 bolts, nuts and washers.

rough measurements: 11.5"x28"

Cut and mount using existing hardware. I removed the radiator duct.
I used the existing mounting screws to secure the front side and the two bolts on the frame to secure the rear. I did drill two holes for the small nut/bolts to secure the rear corners.
The mesh is probably called 'expanded metal' if you need to ask where it is at the store.

cheers

Some have installed a mesh like material over the opening to keep junk out. I just look up under there every month or so and get the trash out.

A lot of Corvette specialty stores have precut screens for the radiator.
It's not going to be as inexpensive as Chewy's suggestion, though.

Many posts on the temps on these cars, what you experienced is normal. I have seen 235 in my car before, no issues. You can turn on the AC to get that fan going to and pull more air through the radiator if you want.

Seems like a pretty simple DIY project.

A friend's car had issues like this and it turned out that the fans were not going to high speed. They have two speeds - low and high - controlled by a relay.
