Here is a strange one. My gas guage has been doing strange things. When I fill it full, and drive, it works fine, but when it gets to about 1/4, it drops off to empty. When I have to start and stop the engine, the guage always goes to full at first, then after a while of driving it will then go to what I hope is the correct level. It was worse last year, but I used about 5 bottles of chevron cleaner, and stored it with a good amount of cleaner in the tank. It got better, to the point stated above, but I still worry. I have been using my trip guage to judge, and always fill it when I am at 1/2 just to be safe, but it is irratating because I am a perfectionist, and everything has to be working good. Any ideas? I keep hearing about grounds needing to be cleaned, but if it was the ground, would other things not be working correctly also?

In addition to the Techron solution/suggestion, TSB 02-06-04-010A was issued on 6/27/2003 in which they reprogram your PCM to address this. I believe it makes the PCM less sensitive to fluctuations in the sensor readings.

you can find it at www.corvetteactioncenter.com

Before going drastic, try to run the tank down to near empty. Fill with tier one fuel and add 20 ounces of techtron. When the tank is near empty, do it again. The deposits could be thick and heavy from sitting and maybe from poor quality fuel. The Chevron stuff might not be strong enough. I have also heard seafoam in the tank will clean everything. Best of luck the fuel gauge issue is annoying but the bill from a stealership will set you ablaze mad

Leadfoot is right on as always. In the past I've used the Techron Plus, which is a little more concentrated.

I actually did run it down before I stored it. Put about 2 gals in it it, and the full large bottle of techron in it over the winter. made it a little better. guess I should do that again. the only problem is that without the guage accurate below 1/2, I don't want to run out of gas (again). I have used sunoco 94, but the year it happened, I was using shell, and Sam's club twice. I have since gone back to sunoco 94.
What is seafoam?

Seafoam is a "detergent" that is famous for decarbonization when added to the intake. Poured into the tank it cleans everything on it's way thru. You can find it in any auto store. The issue is most likely build up on the sensors. Exhaust efforts to clean before going to the dealer. They will find a way into your bank account

Thanks for all the help everyone, but problem solved, the car just got sold. But funny thing, all the little quirks seem to have all just dissappeared. She is running perfect now, go figure.

already bought a new on. a tripple black 2003 loaded with only 13000miles on it.
My 01 was a 6 speed, I needed to change to automatic because the wife could not drive standard. I liked the C5 over the C6, so looked for another. I lucked out, the dealer only got it in the night before, and it wasn't even listed yet, and I got a good deal on mine as a trade.

I will tell you what an intersting thing I had .. My fuel guage did the same thing .. I would fill it and when i burned a 1/4 tank it would drop to E after a little while it would come back .. I did the Techtron thing .. But when I removed the shift 1-4 bypass to allow my monitors to set properly ( car would not pass NYS inspection) everything cleared up .. it has not happened since .. Probably had some kind of a short ..

The electrical system in the C5 is very sensitive and has strange ways of acting to ground faults, weak battery, shorts due to cheap thin wires.
Cossak congrats our Northern brother cheers A new C5 in the garage that didnt take long in fact it sounds like you were never without. I am interested to hear how you like the A4? What rear is in the Corvette? Is it a vert?
You know with more than 600 posts you more than qualify for Bubba status. May I nominate you? If so begin the selection of your Bubba handle so it doesn't get assigned.. devilsmile
Best of luck with the new Corvette and my compliments on your wisdom devilsmile

I traded my 01 for the 03 at the dealer. they just got the 03 in, and it was not preped or listed, and i jumped on it. right place at the right time.
Not sure of all that is done, but it has the black wing air filter, and a corsa exhaust. sounds great. the revs on this auto are just slightly higher than the 6spd was. at about 120 kms it is reving about 2000-2100 rpms.
The only time I have been without a vette was with the first wife, she made me sell my C4 a year after we married in 1994. I finally got fed up, and bought the 01 in 04. She did not like that at all, guess that was part of why we divorced in 05.
I bought a tripple black convertable. loaded with only 14000 miles on it.
What is this bubba handle, and i have no problem you nominating me for it. as for the handle part, what is that all about? do i have to change my cossak name?

Great snag Bubba Cossak...you dont have to do anything..we just grab the opportunity to change our name to something easier to type like Bubba Foot or Bubba Moon or Bubba Rose Bubba Link Bubba Sparks Bubba Buzz you get it. Just freshens things up and it is better if you pick then have someone else tag you.
Hope the o3 had the 315 rear I think you will like the A4 Best of Luck

I think I'll just stick to Cossak for now. Too many names and passwords to remember these days with the computer. The only name I can think of is my stripper name (if I was one) of Buck Naked. HAHAHA.
