A friend of mine just bought a 2004 Corvette coupe A-4 with 15,007 miles. Which number in the vin tells the rearend gear of 273 or 315 high performance? Also the Corvette is silver and it came only with a tinted targa top. Where can she find a silver solid targa top at a good cost? I figure it will cost around $1,200. Thanks for any help.

They're for sale on e-Bay all the time or Corvette Forum Parts For Sale. I think you can get one for about $600.00. I got one a few years ago on the cheap but I had to fix it and paint it.

Yep what Bubba Rose says. DOn't pay retail for a solid top. They show up from time to time but I'd be reluctant to buy one long distance as they do not ship well. Even if the color is wrong you can get them repainted to yuor color for not alot of money devilsmile

Thanks for all your help. I will check e-bay for a top for her. Still don't know if she has the 273 rear or GM performance 315 rear. Guess I can call the dealer and see if they can tell me from the vin number.

Hey Normsvt, You can go to the site I've listed below and find what gear ratio. All you have to do is type in the VIN number and you can find out a lot of info on your car.
http://www.compnine.com/vid.php?vin=1g1yy22g535103982

Hope it helps out!!!

Thanks for the link GJ. I entered my VIN number and the RPO's came up and most seemed to match. There were a few options that came up that stated unknown in the description, they were 1AY, BGR, and SLM. I found the BGR (Bowling Green) at the website: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c5/2001/2001prod.html

But, that site did not list the 1AY or SLM RPO's. Anyone have any idea as to what they stand for?

BTW not for sure why, but the site showed my VIN as Rare devileek and all this time I thought I had a typical bone stock ride. The price of this thing just sky rocketed....anyone have a ZR1 they want to trade title for title...hehehe!

1AY Stock Order Processing Code(replaced by SLM, circa 2001)

BGR Bowling Green Plant Processing

SLM Stock Order Processing Code(replaced 1AY, circa 2001)

Click here for a pretty complete list thumbsup

As for the 'rarity', that site calculates that by the percentage of available options you have on your car, it has no idea if 99.9% of them are identical to yours or if yours is a one-off. There are several sites that can tell you how many of each RPO were made, but not even GM claims to have the data for which ones were combined with each other.

Thanks GJ I ran her vin and she has the 273 rear. I ran mine and it shows the 315 rear, which I have. Great site to check.

Thanks Chewy, for clearing those RPO codes for me. There was a lot of sarcasm in the post concerning the rarity of my VIN. I hope you all understood that...if not my bad. And, thanks again GJ for the link that is pretty cool, I plan on running all my vehicle VIN's.
