My stock rims look like they are pealing, like I thin layer of clear plastic. Anyone know what or why this is? And is ther anything I can do without ruining them?

The base rims are just clear-coated aluminum, any auto body shop should be able to strip and repaint them for a few hours labor.

I had the same problem on a BMW. Cost to redo all four wheels ran just over $200.

If cash is tight and there isnt that much rub em with 2000grit wet /dry sand paper until smooth and shoot the spots with a can of clear coat. Be sure to clean em real good and to use tack cloth to remove sanding debris. Easy enough to do.
