Just wondering...as I look at the forum regularly, there are way more C5 questions / problems then there are C6 postings. With the C6 out for nearly 6 years now I'd expect more postings. Is this model more trouble free and reliable than the C5's or is it still the age issue as many of our C5's are over a decade old now? For you Buba's, were there more posting when the C5 was 6 years old? or did GM make improvements that have fixed many of the problems that still haunt our babies?

Most of the issues are electrical, fuel gauge column lock, wiring failures, corrosion and similar. The C5 has the built in code reader enabling more user trouble shooting. The C6 does not have this requiring dealer involvement. Warranty coverage is also a factor. In general the C5 is very reliable and dependable. We see more posts here in part because it is the C5 Forum. I see you on other sites too and there are many issues with the C6. The battery and grounds are really a primary source of trouble. Maintaining these really cuts down trouble Bubba

Our C5s may be getting older, but I'll drive mine until you can't find parts anymore. Of course that's what my wife says about me.

This wasn't a ding on the C5 or the site. I'm on my 2nd C5 and this one only has 9,400 miles on it, so my intention is to drive this one a long time as long as I can find someone to work on it when it's needed. I think the forum is great. I used to enjoy working on my cars back in the 60's and 70's but now the technology and my age make it more difficult. Now I just love washing, waxing, and driving, I'll leave the other stuff to the professionals. I'll have to say though, that this is the first car I've had in the last 20 plus years that I've had that wasn't under the manufacturer warranty, of course it's my toy and third car so it's not my daily driver unless the weather is nice.

The C-6 has been called a C-5 and a half. Some of the parts were carried over to the C-6. But I have seen alot of the same problems with the C-6 that match the C-5. Alot of the same electrical, battery and so on. But over all they are a great sports car and make a great daily driver. Some have reported 250,000 miles with no major problems. I still like the look of the C-5 over the C-6, inside and out. But JMO and everbody has one. Love my C-5

Having owned a two c5's and now a c6...I'd say your absolutely right..
The c6 is just a c5 and a half...
Still thats a good thing.
the C6 is just a more refined c5...nvh is better...road noise is lower ..and of course it has 25% more power stock to stock..so its a bit quicker but barely so.....
350 hp to 436? 86 hp or??? 25%...still the c5 was so fast and so powerful...the extra few ponies on the c6 could be made up with an air filter mod or some other nonsense if you really gotta have the number..
Hindsights always 20/20 so I can honestly say as much as I dig my black C6 M6 Z51 with NPP...I would have been just as happy with a c5 and if I needed to have the extra power? I could have just thrown a new eldebrock supercharger on it...(if they even came out with the LS1 or LS6 kit yet)
Sometimes I think of the edlebrock kit for my present c6....pumping up the hp to 599 hp..but the stock reliability is something I'm not prepared to give up and with the c7 right around the corner....(2013 april preview release)
I think I'll hold off for now....
(edit) problems with 27k miles? nothing big...sway bar bushings were replaced...battery was replaced...key fob replaced...and drivers seat cover was replaced....one ballast in a headlight was replaced..All under warranty and none of them were big deals..

A friend races an 08 Z06. He has experienced a crankshaft speed sensor failure, a clutch master cylinder failure, an alternator failure and I'm sure I'm missing a few other things. In addition, his suspension bushings are pushing out of the control arms (same as what happens to a C5. This is a problem only if you are racing or driving really hard).
My C5 Z06 has experienced a diff failure, transmission problems, clutch replacement, door electronic issues, broken rear suspension mounting brackets, and has periodic episodes of "service active handling", etc.
Given that my car is 7 yrs older, it's probably about a wash. I would hope that the newer car would be a little more reliable.

It accelerates the rate, for sure, but it's an indication of weak spots that could happen to anybody, especially if they drive hard. I would assume that one of the reasons for buying a sports car is that you like to drive hard at least once in awhile.

Well, ok, but I've seen pieces scattered all over the road by "spirited" driving, so I was just pointing out that it looked to me that the C5 and C6 had rough parity on breakage. I'm not trying to argue what constitutes racing.
What I would argue is that the old adage "racing improves the breed" IS true and benefits us when we do get exuberant on occasion.
