Well I'd stay out of dealerships. I change my own oil and I use Mobil 1.

I`d suggest you go to your local Wal-mart buy the Mobil 1 for about $28/5 qts (you will need 7 qts) and if they have an Auto shop they can do it there. If not just any mechanic shop should be able to do it for no more than $20 labor+filter included. If you decide to go to a Shop and pay more than $90 it is a Rip off-remember they always DOUBLE if not TRIPLE the stores price. I paid $140 once-but that was only ONCE smile

Mobil 1 and change it yourself if you can. My only thing with Wal Mart and the quick change places is that they always seem to have a bunch of kids doing the work.

You won't go wrong using any oil that meets the Corvette spec GM4718M. These oils meet that spec:
http://www.gm.com/corporate/responsibility/environment/maintenance/gm_approved_engine_oils.pdf

O'Reilly's has Pennzoil Platinum and Valvoline SynPower on sale for $3.99 a quart. with a limit of 24 quarts. Sep 28,2010 is the last day of the sale.

Enjoy your new Vette and maintain it yourself. cheers

I'd buy rhino ramps so you can get the Corvette up in the air and do it yourself. There are many reasons to avoid any of the jiffy lube like shops. You will recoup the price of the ramps with one oil change.
The C5 is easy to work on and maintaining it your self is 1/2 the fun. This and other forums will help you with any task.
Toyo's are good tire but do not last long and they are pricey. There are many alternatives when the time comes to change. Best of luck and congratulations you own the best Corvette

I changed the oil in my vette for the first time
last month. I got the rhino ramps as leadfoot suggested. Dont forget the back of the car has to be jacked up as well. The back of the car needs to be even with the front or just a little higher so the oil drains out properly. And you will need a oil filter wrench cause I couldn't get mine off due to the lack of room to put your hands on the filter. I got with a friend of mine that works at a chevrolet dealership and he said next time bring the oil and filter and he would change it for $15.00. So I'm taking mine there next time for sure !!! Good luck and welcome to the forum Fred.

Again I would like to thank everyone for the input it is very welcome. If rhere is one thing I do know it is the value of belonging to a forum. They are truley a brotherhood [sisterhood too]I belong to both the Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum and The All Ford Mustang Forum although I sold the truck awhile back and I just sold the mustang convertible to allow me to keep the vette in the garage.I miss the mustang but I can honestly say that with the vette at the age of 71 I finally fell in love.
Tanks again

I thought that I was an old Corvette driver at 69, but you're 71. Are there any older? I mean if there are, we can probably explain to these young folks how to really enjoy old age, which is DRIVE A VETTE AND NEVER GET OLD. laugh cheers

I think there is a member that is 73 or 74 but I don't know for sure and yes you are righton about living right and enjoying old age.I get a kick out of some of the young girls that get all caught up in the beauty of the vette[2001 speedway white vert]only to find Moses'son climbing outof it.Wish we had as much sun as you.
