It is official. I now have more speeding tickets that I ever have before within a 24-month period.

6 total.

I am ashamed.

I bow my head in humiliation.

However, here's the very, very interesting part. I've never (not once) gotten nailed while making a high speed run outside of an official fully sanctioned event. In other words, every single one of those darn tickets came on the freeway with a posted speed of 65, where my top speed for the worst ticket was 81. All right, I'll admit that 81 in a 65, is pushing it a bit, but 81 in a C5 is like 40 for most others. You are not even aware of the speed unless you keep your HUD lit up all day.

I only use my HUD at night - may I should start using it during the day.

The others were speeds like 73, 76, 78 (twice) and get this - someone gave me a ticket for doing 70 in a 65! Talk about cheap shots! That took the cake.

It is hard driving a C5 at 65 mph constantly. You cannot always use the CC. Just one sneeze is all it takes and the car leaps to 120 mph. A simply twitch of the ankle and your instantly doing 170+! So, how on earth can you maintain 65. It is a physical impossibility.

So, I'm driving in the slow lane at least until summer when I can get back to the track. In my state, a 6-time offender within a 24-month period gets their license suspended for 6 months. Because I promised to never speed again ( [Yes!] ), I was slapped on the wrists and given no suspension, no probation and no record - other than my ticket points, which will drop anyway after 36 months.

I talked with my insurance company about the matter and they said that given my clean record with them for over 17 years, they would overlook this incident. Prior to getting this car I had one speeding ticket in 13 years and one No U-Turn ticket back in my Freshman year in College. I was clearly a model driver - almost a perfect record.

Now, look at me. I'm an runaway convict heading for the green mile at over 170! laugh Well, sh!t they told me to "drive it like I stole it!" And, that is exactly what I did! eek

I knew that buying this car would be more expensive that advertised. [Rotate]

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. What's your excuse. If you are posting from Jail, we understand - laugh

Just one since '95 or '96. It was last year, I was doing 60 in a 45 MPH zone. One of those roads that looks and feels like a 55 MPH highway, but isn't. Anyway, cop was nice and knocked it down to 50, and I didn't get any points for it. No biggie. usa

2 in 37 years of driving. One for 29 in a 25, and the other for 30-something in a 25. I'm probably the most boring person I know.

I've found out over the years that "who" the driver is has as much to do with getting a speeding ticket as "what" they are driving. When I was younger, even driving a junker I could get a ticket just by blinking too fast.... I once got 5 tickets at one stop.... (long story.....even met the judge that evening)... Now that I've had time to "age respectfully" I've had cops look at me flying by them and not gotten a ticket. Sometimes they just shake their hand with a "slow down" jesture and other times they just turn away... I'm not trying to get a ticket, but I burned a lot of cash as a youngster and am amazed at how many times I've just been "ignored" now. I'm a member of the "snowtop" team and even added a brilliant white beard to make it even more obvious that I'm OLD. If I knew it was this easy, I would have worn a fake beard and wig when I was younger! wink

Hasbro has a good point. However, I drove from age 15 to age 20 before getting my first ticket for anything.

Sure wish we had autobahns and autobahn type laws in this country. You could limit the autobahn to vehicles that were only capable of performing inside a specific Road Handling Index range, and that were capable of at least 155mph. This would eliminate all but the most capable. There are many cars out there that can do 190mph in a straight line. The road handling Index regulation would take car of that problem.

It would be a highway filled with Corvette's, Porsche's, Ferrari's, Viper's, Supra's, Mustang's, etc. As well as the occasional Honda Prelude with the Type-R sticker giving it both the power and handling capability it needed to pass the regulations. None of us would have to worry about tickets except for violating the minimum speed limit which would be around 120 mph.

Only 2 actual tickets in the past 5 or 6 years. Not very indicative though of my driving habits.

Hasbro you are right; sometimes it's all about who you are and who you know. [Yes!]

I have gotten 10 tickets in 3 months. My last one was two weeks ago. It’s not good but I managed to get off them all by using a lawyer in Houston by the name of David Sprecher. Except this last one I have a court date in a week. I’m not sure how he does it but who cares. The messed up part is I never got a ticket in 2 years while I owned my 98 corvette coupe but I sold it 3 months ago and have gotten all 10 tickets after that. (In a Honda Passport and BMW 325???) So I went out and bought a 99 Corvette convertible again. My wife is worried now but I keep telling her I don’t get tickets in my Corvettes. I hope im right I can’t get another or im in trouble.

So to Top Speed (and all you others that have gotten caught lately), I just gotta ask....do you have a radar detector? If so, is it not picking them smokies fast enough? What's the deal...we (I) want to know. Most people here swear by the Valentine V1 detector..any thoughts? Thanks... confused

I did have a Cobra Radar detector. It was a 9000 series I think when I got the first 2 tickets and it went off but to late the cop was right on me. So I sold it on ebay and never got another because I was planing on not ever speeding again ANYWAYS now I want a Valentine V1 because I have a friend that speeds all the time and never gets any tickets. He has a Valentine V1. He drives a TNT Viper with a full wing on the back. I have to amagine cops just want to catch him speeding. He says it works alot better than any other radar he has ever had. He was telling me Bell just won some award for the best radar with an escort I dont know the series or anything but if its true im sure we can find it on the web somewhere.

In 19 years of driving, only 1 speeding ticket. But then again, everybody speeds in Toronto. They'll pull you over it you don't.
