Both are great pony cars and both true american icons.

I personally prefer the camaro over the mustang but then I've been a GM fan for decades..

Still I admire both cars and in fact recently met up with an owner of a new 2011 shelby GT.

We shot the breeze....for awhile outside the health club and I had lots of questions like how for his first new car....make the decision to go for the 55 grand Shelby vs the nearly as fast 20 grand less expensive Mustang 5.0.

At 19 years old...its quite the car.

Thanks again for the sales information too...

JB

Its going to be close race...at the end of the model year...

hard to say which will win. I believe ford had a lot of pent up demand as ford fanatics knew the 412 hp 5.0 was coming....(so they held off buying until the new model released)

Good article!

•Ford sold 8,974 Mustangs in June.

•Camaro is more than 6,000 units ahead of the Mustang in annual 2010 sales.

DETROIT — The pony race for sales continues with the Ford Mustang gaining on the Chevrolet Camaro. The Mustang overtook the Camaro in June, and the Camaro's percentage decline in June was nearly the same amount that the Mustang gained in sales.

But the Camaro remains significantly ahead of the Mustang for the first six months of the year.

In June, Ford sold 8,974 Mustangs, which includes the new 2011 version. That was a nearly 18 percent increase from June 2009.

General Motors sold 7,540 Camaro models in June, a 19 percent decline from a year ago. The 2011 Camaro went into production in early June, with minimal changes over the all-new 2010 model.

Inside Line says: The halftime score is 46,378 Camaro models sold to 40,035 Mustangs, making it one of the races to watch for 2010. — Michelle Krebs, Edmunds' Senior Analyst and Editor at Large

I agree JB, in the end I believe they'll sell more Mustangs.
